Clinical Workflow

End-to-End IMRT Planning Workflow

From CT simulation through contouring, AI-assisted planning, physicist review, and final treatment approval — Airato fits directly into the standard radiation therapy workflow without replacing existing steps or personnel.

Workflow Steps

Full Treatment Planning Cycle

Airato enters at Step 3 (AI Auto-Planning) and exits with a physicist-reviewed plan ready for approval. All prior and subsequent steps are unchanged.

1

CT Simulation

Patient positioned and immobilized. Simulation CT acquired with appropriate field of view for treatment site. External reference marks placed. CT transferred to TPS workstation via DICOM.

2

Contouring

Radiation oncologist defines GTV, CTV, PTV margins. Medical physicist or dosimetrist contours OARs. Structure set exported as DICOM RT Structure Set.

3

AI Auto-Planning (Airato)

CT and structure set received by Airato. Beam candidates generated and dose optimization performed. DVH constraint satisfaction reviewed within Airato. Optimized plan and dose distribution available for physicist review.

4

Physicist Review

Medical physicist reviews Airato's output: beam configuration, DVH curves, isodose distribution, and OAR constraint satisfaction. Adjustments made as clinically indicated. Physicist approves or rejects plan.

5

Treatment Approval

Radiation oncologist conducts final clinical review of approved physicist plan. Prescription, DVH objectives, and plan quality confirmed. Plan approved for treatment delivery. DICOM RT Plan exported to linac management system.

Role Detail

The Physicist Workflow with Airato

What Airato Does

  • Generates initial beam configuration from CT anatomy
  • Optimizes fluence map against DVH constraints
  • Displays per-structure constraint satisfaction in real time
  • Produces dose distribution for review

What the Physicist Does

  • Reviews all Airato-generated beam candidates
  • Adjusts beam angles, weights, or MLC positions as needed
  • Verifies DVH against institutional constraints
  • Signs off on plan quality before oncologist review
  • Documents any deviations from AI-generated starting configuration
Oncologist Perspective

The Oncologist Workflow with Airato

Faster Plan Availability

Airato reduces physicist setup time, meaning approved plans reach oncologist review earlier in the planning cycle — improving scheduling efficiency for urgent cases.

Consistent Plan Quality

DVH-constraint optimization applied consistently across cases. Oncologist-specified OAR objectives are enforced systematically, reducing variability from manual planning differences.

Unchanged Approval Process

The oncologist's final plan review and approval step is unchanged. Airato output has already been reviewed by the physicist — oncologist sees a fully reviewed plan with DVH documentation.
